I am Monique and I am a certified Dutch language teacher (NT2), legal translator from English and Portuguese into Dutch, and founder of Influente. I love to be in an international environment, to study the contrasts between different languages and their cultures, and I sincerely believe that learning a foreign language helps you to understand the culture of the country where it is spoken.
I was born in the Netherlands in 1966. When I was five our family moved to Belgium. In 1990, I received my Master’s degree in translation at the University of Antwerp where, in 2011, I also got my postgraduate degree in teaching Dutch as a foreign language.
In 1997, I co-founded a computer retail company. In the 17 years that I worked there, the company extended from 5 employees to over 100. It soon became clear that working with and for people was my calling, and so HR became my department.
I have always combined my job in HR with interpreting and teaching, and in 2014, I decided to focus entirely on teaching, thus the idea of founding Influente was born.
Throughout the years of experience in HR, it was my mission to help people reach their full potential, and I also try to accomplish this in my Dutch classes.
I saw more job opportunities in this area in the Netherlands, and so I moved the Influente head office from Antwerp to the beautiful seaside city of The Hague.
Besides teaching, I enjoy photography, I love to write poetry and to take long walks in beautiful settings in the Netherlands, the U.K. and Portugal. I like to travel, to read and to cook for my friends and family.
I hope to meet you soon!
